GMGN copy trading, set up properly
Copy trading is the feature people sign up to GMGN for and the one they lose money on fastest. The tool is good; the defaults are not the point. What decides your result is the filter set and the fee you pay on every mirrored trade.

GMGN copy trading settings, filters and limits
What GMGN copy trading actually does
You pick a wallet, and GMGN mirrors its buys, and optionally its sells, from your own wallet. GMGN's documentation is specific about the boundaries: it works on Solana, it needs a Telegram wallet login, you can run up to 10 copy tasks, and after three consecutive failures a task pauses itself and waits for you to restart it. Nothing restarts automatically, which is a mercy when a target wallet goes on a losing run while you are asleep.
Buy mode: fixed or proportional?
- Fixed buy spends the same amount regardless of what the target spent. Predictable, and it protects you when the wallet suddenly sizes up.
- Maximum follow-buy matches the target's size up to a cap. Closer to real mirroring, riskier on a wallet that swings position size.
Sell method: the setting that decides your outcome
- Automatic follow-sell sells the same proportion the target sells, and only the tokens the copy bought.
- No follow-sell leaves exits to you.
- Take-profit and stop-loss measured against the copy position's average price. Note the documented catch: once TP/SL is on, the copy will not follow the target's sells.
- Batch TP/SL sells a percentage per rule; each rule fires once unless you add to the position, which recalculates against the new average.
The filters that separate copying from gambling
GMGN's advanced settings are where a copy task becomes survivable. Each one is a documented field:
| Filter | What it prevents |
|---|---|
| Market cap limit | Copying into tokens too small or already too large |
| Liquidity limit | Entering pools you cannot exit |
| Token creation time | Buying anything older or newer than your strategy allows |
| Minimum burnt ratio | Pools where liquidity is not locked or burnt |
| Minimum copy amount | Mirroring dust trades that cost more in gas than they return |
| Maximum copy amount | Following a wallet that pumps a position before dumping it |
| Position increase limit | Repeated buys into the same token |
| Platform filter | Copying launches from venues you do not want |
| Blacklist, up to 20 tokens | Specific tokens you will never hold |
Why priority fees decide whether copying pays
GMGN puts the warning in its own docs: copying frequently drains the SOL balance, and users whose copies were profitable still finished down because the priority fee was set too high. Its suggested setup for copy trading is auto slippage, anti-MEV off, and a priority fee around 0.002 to 0.006 SOL. Run your own maths first with the fee calculator: one copied round trip pays the 1% twice, plus gas both ways.
Lightning Mode: two seconds for a real risk
Lightning Mode acts on unconfirmed data to gain roughly 2 seconds. GMGN documents the trade-off plainly: the chain may roll back, so you can end up executing a trade the target never completed, or executing twice. It can also see a sell before the matching buy, which breaks auto-sell. Use it only when the edge you are chasing is genuinely measured in seconds.
Picking a wallet worth copying
GMGN labels wallets it considers Smart Money, plus KOL, Sniper, Insider and Scammer tags, and its CopyTrade Rank shows who is performing on each chain right now. Treat the tags as a filter, not a verdict: GMGN itself notes the data comes from third parties and is for reference only. Check the wallet's recent trades, not just its rank, and start with a fixed buy small enough that a bad week is boring. The wider tool set is in GMGN features, and the chain-level picture in how GMGN trading is organised.
Copy trading questions
Does GMGN copy trading work on all chains?
No. GMGN documents wallet copy trading as Solana-only, and it requires a Telegram wallet login.
How many wallets can I copy on GMGN?
Up to 10 copy tasks at once. A task pauses automatically after three consecutive failed trades and must be restarted by hand.
Does copy trading cost extra on GMGN?
No extra platform fee: each copied trade pays the same 1% plus gas and your priority or tip fee. Because copies are frequent, those network fees are what usually erode the profit.
What is Lightning Mode?
A faster mode that reacts about 2 seconds sooner by acting on unconfirmed chain data. GMGN warns it can execute on trades that get rolled back, or execute twice.
Why did my copy trade not fire?
Usually an advanced filter blocked it: market cap, liquidity, token age, burnt ratio, minimum or maximum copy amount, or the launch-platform filter.
