GMGN wallet tags explained, one by one

The little icons next to each wallet on a GMGN token page are the part of the terminal most people scroll past, and they are the part that carries the most information. This is every tag GMGN documents, in GMGN's own words, plus what each one is actually worth when you are deciding whether to buy.

What every GMGN wallet tag means, in GMGN's own words

Why the tags exist at all

A memecoin token page gives you a price and a chart within seconds of the pool opening, and neither tells you anything: there is no history to read. What there is, from block one, is a list of addresses and what they have done before. GMGN turns that history into labels so you can read the holders instead of the chart. That is the same data that sits behind the checks described in the feature-by-feature breakdown of the terminal.

Two groups of tags do different jobs. The first describes the wallet — how it has behaved across tokens. The second describes what that wallet is doing in this token.

Wallet tags: who is holding

TagGMGN's definitionWhat it is worth
Paper handThe holding time is short in this token. This wallet sold quickly last time. On a fresh pool, a cluster of paper hands in the first buyers means the float is likely to come back to market within minutes.
Diamond handHolding this token for a long time. The opposite signal. Useful on a token that has already survived its first hours, less meaningful on one that is ten minutes old.
Smart MoneyWallet who often earns money.GMGN's own profit-history label. It describes the past, not the trade in front of you — a Smart Money wallet buying does not make a token safe.
Pump Smart MoneyWallet who often earns money on Pump.fun.The same idea narrowed to one launchpad. Worth more on a Pump.fun token than anywhere else.
SniperWallet who buys in earlier blocks after pool created.Snipers are in before a chart exists. A high sniper share means a large part of the supply is held by wallets whose plan is to exit into your buy.
KOLKey Opinion Leader who connected an X account on GMGN.AI, with a verified mark on X.com.An identity label, not a performance one. It tells you a public account is behind the wallet, which cuts both ways.

Paper hands, in practice

Paper hand is the tag people search for most, and it is the easiest to misread. It is not a character judgement and it is not attached to the wallet permanently: GMGN computes it per token, from how long that address held this one. The same wallet can carry a paper hand icon on a token it flipped in ninety seconds and a diamond hand icon on one it has held for months.

What makes it useful is concentration. One paper hand among the first buyers is noise. If most of the early holders are tagged paper hand, you are looking at a float that has historically come straight back to market — which matters far more on a pool minutes old, where those early buyers hold nearly everything, than on a token that has already traded for days.

The tag tells you what a wallet did before. It cannot tell you what it will do next, and a token with no paper hands is not therefore safe — it may simply be too new for anyone to have sold yet.

Trade activity tags: what they are doing here

TagGMGN's definitionWhat it is worth
Top HolderWallet who holds more percentage of token total supply.Read this with the top-10 share, not alone. One address holding 30% is a different risk from ten holding 3% each.
Blue Chip HoldersThe higher the proportion of blue chip tokens held, the more blue chip holders are optimistic about the token.A crowd-quality measure: are the buyers wallets that also hold established tokens, or wallets that only ever hold new launches?
InsiderWallet who has insider information and owns the token earlier.Bought before there was any public reason to.
Suspected InsiderMultiple position holders share the same creation time, funding source and transfer time.Wallets that look independent until you check when they were made and who funded them. GMGN groups them for you.
Suspected phishing walletToken transfer detected. Many phishing-tagged wallets from one token source spread tokens, faking a wide range of holders. Two tricks in one tag: inflating the holder count with wallets that never bought, and airdropping to KOLs and famous wallets so retail believes they bought in.

The last three are the ones worth slowing down for. Insider and Suspected Insider answer "did someone know before the rest of us", and the phishing tag answers "is this holder count real at all". A token can show hundreds of holders and still be one wallet that airdropped itself into looking popular.

How to read the tags without fooling yourself

  1. Read concentration, not individuals. One tag is an anecdote. The mix across the first buyers is the signal.
  2. Weight by token age. Sniper and paper hand shares matter enormously in the first minutes and fade as real volume arrives.
  3. Pair tags with structure. Tags describe people; liquidity depth, top-10 share and whether LP is burnt describe the trade. Neither replaces the other — the cost side is in what a GMGN trade actually costs after gas and priority.
  4. Never treat Smart Money as a recommendation. It is a record of past profit on other tokens. Wallets that often earn money also often lose on individual trades.

None of this removes the custody question, which is separate and covered in the write-up on how GMGN holds your keys.

Where to find the tags in the terminal

Open any token on gmgn.ai and look at the holders and recent-trades lists: the icons sit beside each address. GMGN also surfaces the creator's holding percentage and the insiders' share of total supply as plain numbers above them, so you can read the concentration before you read a single tag. The rest of the token page is walked through in the step-by-step guide to placing a first GMGN trade.

Wallet tag questions

What does paper hand mean on GMGN?

GMGN's documentation defines the paper hand icon as a wallet whose "holding time is short in this token". It is a per-token label based on how quickly that wallet has exited, not a judgement of the wallet overall.

What is the difference between paper hand and diamond hand on GMGN?

They are opposite ends of the same measure: holding time. Paper hand means the holding time is short in this token; diamond hand means the wallet has held it for a long time. Both are per-token, so the same wallet can be a paper hand on one token and a diamond hand on another.

What does Smart Money mean on GMGN?

GMGN labels a wallet Smart Money when it often earns money. Pump Smart Money is the same idea restricted to Pump.fun. Both describe past profitability and carry no guarantee about the current trade.

What is a sniper wallet on GMGN?

GMGN defines a sniper as a wallet that buys in earlier blocks after the pool is created — in before any chart or social activity exists.

What does the insider tag mean on GMGN?

Insider marks a wallet that owned the token earlier and had information others did not. Suspected Insider is weaker: several holders share the same wallet creation time, funding source and transfer time, which is a pattern rather than proof.

Are GMGN wallet tags reliable?

They are computed from on-chain behaviour, so they describe what wallets did, accurately. What they cannot do is predict the next trade. Treat them as inputs to a decision — alongside liquidity, top-10 holder share and whether LP is burnt — not as a buy or sell signal.

Tags are one layer of the token page. The rest of what GMGN puts in front of a trade is covered in our GMGN trading overview.
